MechanicText Terms of Use

Effective: October 18, 2026 · mechanictext.com

1. Agreeing to these terms

By using mechanictext.com, you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

These terms are an agreement between you and MechanicText ("we", "us"). They cover drivers looking for a garage, people who write reviews, and garages listed on the site.

The short version:

  • MechanicText helps you find a garage and contact it from your own phone. We don't fix cars, and we're not part of your conversation with the garage.
  • Any repair, quote or payment is between you and the garage you choose.
  • MechanicText is free for drivers.
  • Be honest in what you submit, and don't misuse the site.
  • Our responsibility for problems is limited, as explained in section 9.

2.What MechanicTextis, and whatitisn't

MechanicText is a directory and introduction service for garages in Massachusetts.

What we do:

  • Ask a few questions about your car and confirm your email.
  • Show you garages near your zip code.
  • Prepare a message for you to send from your phone's own texting app, or let you call the garage.

What we don't do:

  • We don't diagnose, repair, inspect or service vehicles.
  • We don't employ the garages or act as their agent.
  • We don't send texts for you, read your texts, or join your calls.
  • We don't set prices, take payments, or guarantee that a garage will reply, be available, or accept your job.
  • We don't give mechanical, legal, insurance or safety advice. If your car may be unsafe to drive, don't drive it, and contact a professional or emergency services.

3. Who can use MechanicText

You must be at least 18 years old to make a request or write a review. MechanicText currently serves Massachusetts only. You can browse from anywhere, but requests are limited to Massachusetts zip codes.

If you use the site on behalf of a business, you confirm that you're allowed to accept these terms for that business.

4. Using MechanicText as a driver

  • Give accurate details. Use your real name, an email you can access, and a phone number you're allowed to use. Describe your car problem honestly.
  • Texts and calls come from your phone. When you tap Text or Call, your phone's own app opens. You choose whether to send or dial, and you can edit the message first. Your mobile carrier's normal charges for texts and calls apply. MechanicText doesn't charge for them, and doesn't cover them.
  • Contact garages for real reasons only. Don't send garages spam, prank messages or anything unrelated to getting your vehicle serviced.
  • No guaranteed outcome. Garages decide whether and when to reply, what to quote, and whether to take your job.

5. Garages and the work they do

Every garage on MechanicText is an independent business. Any arrangement you make with a garage, including quotes, repairs, parts, warranties, payments and disputes, is between you and that garage.

We choose which garages to list and may remove a garage at any time. Listing a garage doesn't mean we guarantee its work, prices, licensing, insurance or conduct. Before agreeing to any work, we encourage you to:

  • Ask for a written estimate.
  • Check that the shop is properly registered and insured.
  • Read reviews from several sources.

If you have a problem with a repair, take it up with the garage first. Massachusetts consumers may also contact the Office of ConsumerAffairs and Business Regulation or the Attorney General's consumer advocacy office. We'd also like to hear about it, so we can decide whether the garage should stay listed.

6. Reviews

Only people who contacted a garage through MechanicText can review it, and each request allows one review.

When you write a review, you agree that:

  • It describes your own real experience with that garage.
  • It's honest and doesn't include false statements of fact about anyone.
  • It contains no threats, hate speech, personal attacks, private information about others, or ads.
  • You aren't being paid or rewarded for it, and you have no connection to the garage or a competitor.

You keep ownership of what you write. You give MechanicText a free, ongoing, nonexclusive right to display, store and reproduce your review on the site and in promoting MechanicText. We show your first name and last initial with it.

We may hide or remove reviews that break these rules. Garages can't delete reviews, and we don't change review content.

7. Garage listings

Garages are listed only by MechanicText, after we talk with them in person or by phone. Submitting the Get Listed form doesn't guarantee a listing. Each listed garage agrees that:

  • The details it gives us, such as hours, services, phone numbers and address, are accurate, and it will tell us when they change.
  • It agrees to receive texts and calls from MechanicText customers at the numbers it provides.
  • It will treat customers fairly and follow the laws that apply to its business.
  • It won't write reviews of itself or competitors, or ask customers for reviews in exchange for discounts or other rewards.

Listing is free at launch. If we introduce paid plans, we'll share the terms with garages before any charges apply. A garage can ask to be removed at any time.

8. Rules of use

When using MechanicText, you must not:

  • Pretend to be someone else, or submit requests using someone else's details without permission.
  • Use automated tools to scrape, copy or submit data, or try to get around our email codes, limits or bot checks.
  • Collect garage contact details in bulk for marketing, or resell anything from the site.
  • Interfere with the site's security or operation, or try to access the owner dashboard without permission.
  • Use the site for anything illegal, harassing or fraudulent.

We may block requests, hide content or limit access if we believe these rules are being broken.

9. Our content, disclaimers and liability

Our content. The MechanicText name, logo, design and site content belong to MechanicText. You may use the site for its intended purpose, but you may not copy or reuse our branding or content without our written permission. Garage photos and descriptions belong to the garages that provided them.

Information may change. We try to keep garage information current, but hours, services and availability can change without notice. Open/closed status and distances are estimates.

No warranties. We provide MechanicText "as is" and "as available." To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that the site will always be available or error-free, or about the quality, safety or legality of any garage's work.

Limit of liability. To the extent the law allows, MechanicText isn't responsible for:

  • Repairs, damage, injury, costs or losses arising from work done, or not done, by any garage.
  • Disputes between you and a garage.
  • Indirect, incidental or consequential losses, such as lost time, lost earnings or rental car costs.

If we are found responsible for anything despite this section, our total liability to you is limited to $100. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Massachusetts consumer protection law that can't be waived.

Your responsibility. If you break these terms or misuse the site, and that causes a claim against MechanicText, you agree to cover our reasonable costs from that claim.

10. Ending access

You can stop using MechanicText at any time. We may suspend or end anyone's access, remove content, or change or discontinue the site at any time. Sections 5, 6, 9 and 11 continue to apply afterward.

11. Disputes and governing law

Massachusetts law governs these terms. If you have a concern, please email us first so we can try to resolve it informally. Any dispute that isn't resolved that way will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts. You may also bring an eligible claim in small claims court.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as MechanicText grows. When we do, we'll change the effective date at the top. For significant changes, we'll also post a notice on the home page before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the site after the change means you accept the new terms.
